Definitions

Cash in Lieu: Receiving a monetary payment instead of services or benefits.

Cash Option: The amount payable in place of funeral services.

Child: Biological, legally adopted or stepchildren, including stillborn children of at least 26 weeks gestation.

Dependant: A qualifying spouse or child.
-
Extended Family: Persons aged 0–90 years nominated by the policyholder, subject to an additional premium.

Main Member: The person whose application for cover has been approved.
-
Waiting Period: The period during which no benefit is payable.
General
-
Premiums are payable monthly on or before the 1st day of each month.
-
The main member and spouse must be between 18 and 65 years of age to join the scheme. The maximum age for extended family members is 90 years.

The main member may insure biological, legally adopted, or stepchildren. Where a child does not share the surname of the main member or spouse, a birth certificate must be provided confirming the relationship.

Only insured lives declared on the application form will be covered.

Members not legally married but living together may qualify for family benefits, provided all relevant details are declared.

Unmarried children under 21 years are covered. Cover extends up to age 26 for unmarried full-time students. Physically or mentally disabled children who are dependent and not receiving a grant are also covered.
Waiting Periods
-
Membership commences only on the 1st day of a month.

If the first premium is received after the 1st day of the month, cover will commence on the 1st day of the following month.

Immediate cover is granted for accidental death, provided the first premium has been paid.

A three (3) calendar month waiting period applies to immediate family members for natural causes.

A six (6) calendar month waiting period applies to extended family members for natural causes.
-
A twelve (12) calendar month waiting period applies in the event of suicide.

Existing members with more than six (6) months continuous cover under a previous scheme may qualify for immediate cover, subject to proof.

Newborn children enjoy immediate cover, provided they are added within six (6) months of birth.
Payment of Premiums

Premiums shall be payable as specified in the policy schedule.

Cover applies only while premiums are paid and up to date. No liability exists where premiums are unpaid at the time of the insured event.

The policy operates on a month-to-month basis. No reserves or surrender values apply.
-
Premiums are not guaranteed and may be adjusted by the insurer.
-
New member applications are restricted to a maximum entry age of 65 years.
-
Claims must be submitted within six (6) months from the date of death.
-
No claims will be honoured if premiums are in arrears or short paid.
-
No claims will be accepted for grandchildren or foster children unless legal adoption is proven.
-
Upon the death of the policyholder, ownership may be transferred to the surviving spouse, subject to notification and continued premium payment.
Exclusions
Zororo-Phumulani will not be liable for any claim arising directly or indirectly from:

Nuclear, biological, chemical weapons, or radioactive contamination.
-
Sabotage or attacks on facilities resulting in radioactive or chemical exposure.
-
Unlawful activities involving the member, dependants, or beneficiaries.
-
Wilful self-injury, alcohol, drugs, narcotics, or insanity unless medically prescribed.
Claims Options
-
Members may opt for a cash payout or discounted repatriation services.
-
Repatriation services are available between South Africa, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
Termination of the Policy
-
The policyholder may cancel the policy by giving one (1) month written notice.
-
The policy will lapse if obligations are not met.
-
The insurer may terminate the policy with one (1) month written notice.
-
Cover will cease due to non-payment, withdrawal, or regulatory sanctions.
Notes
Sums insured for eligible children are payable as follows:
-
14 years and older: 100%
-
6 to 13 years: 50%
-
0 to 5 years: 25%
Stillborn is defined as the death of a baby after 25 weeks of pregnancy.
